The CDT-CMP welcomed staff, students, and parters to the annual conference, held at the University of Bath
The CDT-CMP hosted its annual conference on Friday 16 September, held at The Edge at the University of Bath. Our invited speakers were Frazer Anderson (Business Development Director at Oxford Instruments Plasma Technology) who gave a talk on ‘Condensed Matter Phyics, Nano and Atomic Scale Technology and Commercialization’, and Sean Langridge (Head of the ISIS diffraction and Materials Division) who spoke about ‘Crystal spin and engineering at the nanoscale’.
The event also gave the opportunity to hear about the research our year 1 students have been working on over the summer for their Extended Projects. Lightening talks provided a glimpse of the ongoing research from year 2 students as well as Bristol and Bath staff affiliated with the CDT. Posters were presented during the lunch session and ranged from scanning tunnelling microscopy of graphene, magnetic penetration depth studies of novel superconductors to lattice vibrations in 2D materials, many-body modelling and near field optical imaging.
With over 70 attendees, the conference was a great success in bringing students, staff and partners together to find out what’s happening in the CDT-CMP. Last, but by no means least, we also welcomed out new cohort of year 1 students.
