Cohort 3 students are getting ready to start their 6 week Research Placements at our Industry, Facility and Academic Partners. For the students not going on a placement they will complete an ETP (Exploratory Training Project) at either Bath or Bristol.
Charlie and Alyn are going to Renishaw to optimise the experimental setup of their product line. They will also get to measure some interesting topical samples.
Mara and Owen are setting off to Nijmegen, Holland at HFML where they will be testing a new dilution refrigerator to extend the temperature range of their strongest (38 T) magnet.
Paolo is heading to Oxford Instruments Plasma Technology to work in their application clean room on a process development for thin film etching or deposition.
Lawrence will be going to ISIS to work on the calibration of high temperature, high pressure gasket assemblies using resistance techniques. He will then prepare some disordered materials to investigate their local order.
We look forward to them returning and to hearing about their experiences.
